APRIL ZAWLOCKI & MATT ZAWLOCKI
After graduating from Illinois State University in 2005, April began her career as a Title One English teacher at Limestone High School. While at Limestone, she effectively reworked the curriculum for the Title One program and raised student reading an average of 2 1/2 levels in only five months.
April then began teaching for District 204 at Scullen Middle School in Naperville. She taught eighth grade Reading at Scullen while she pursued her Master's degree in Educational Leadership and Administration at North Central College.
In 2009, April had the opportunity to move within the district to open a new middle school. At Fischer, April implemented standards-based grading aligned to the Common Core Standards. She was also a member of the curriculum committee that wrote the new ELA curriculum aligned to the Common Core. Additionally, April lead a professional learning community that was centered around standards-based grading and its impact on student achievement.
Currently, April is an Assistant Professor of Education at College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn, Illinois, and was named the Division Outstanding Faculty Member is 2016. She teaches introductory level courses and oversees clinical observation hours of pre-service teachers. April is also pursuing her EdD in Curriculum & Instruction with an emphasis in Curriculum Leadership.
April has presented at numerous conferences including the Illinois Technology Education Conference sponsored by The Technology Education Association of Illinois and the Association of Illinois Middle Schools (AIMS) Summer Splash. She has also provided workshops on standards-based grading for middle school and high school teachers, as well as for college courses.

Matt has been teaching Technology Education since 2004 when he graduated from Illinois State University. He spent three years teaching Woodworking at Limestone High School while earning his Master's degree in Technology Education. He then went on to teach Electronics, Drafting, and Automotive at Neuqua Valley High School. Matt now teaches Technology Education at Gower Middle School in Burr Ridge. He is working on his Administrative endorsement at North Central College in Educational Leadership and Administration.
Matt began working with the Common Core Standards in the fall of 2010. He has worked to align his curriculum to the Common Core and has implemented standards-based grading in his classes.
He has presented at the Illinois Technology Education Conference sponsored by The Technology Education Association of Illinois (TEAI), was awarded the New Technology Education Educator of the Year in 2010, the Technology Education Teacher of the Year in 2012, and the International Technology Education Association Teacher Excellence Award in 2013, and Middle School Program of The Year from TEAI in 2015. Matt is now the President of TEAI.
